It would only take a few moments of browsing this blog to work out that we love spending time outdoors as a family. There really is nothing better in my opinion than exploring somewhere new with my husband and children. Watching my eldest daughter’s excitement as she spots a butterfly or watching her play with a stick after spending ages hunting for just the right one will never tire for me. And now we have our second daughter who turned one yesterday. She spent most of last year tucked up in a baby carrier whilst we were out and about but she’s now walking more and more and in the next few weeks will really get to explore the world around her. Watching your child discover the world around them is like getting to see the world through fresh eyes yourself and in my opinion it’s magical.
What I’m trying to say with all of this waffle is that I’m excited for the summer and I’m excited to share everything with my children. I want to squeeze in as many of those perfectly ordinary extraordinary moments outdoors with my children. Those moments that we remember from our childhoods. My girls are currently only three and one so I know that the chances of them remembering this exact summer are small. But I think laying the foundations now are important, giving them positive associations with the natural world from this young age will (hopefully) mean that they grow up with respect and love for the outdoors.
When I saw that the Wildlife Trust were holding their #30dayswild challenge again this year I just knew that I had to participate. I’m going to be getting out and about every day with the girls and sharing our adventures over on my Instagram account. I am also going to blog as much as possible throughout June with stories of our adventures, ideas of what you could get up to with your little ones, and some tips and tricks for getting out with children. If you’re taking part in #30DaysWild come say hi over on Instagram or Twitter as I’d love to see what you’re getting up to and if you’d like to know more about me then check out my about page or have a look at our most recent adventures.
