Arts and crafts are a favourite activity in our house. Hardly a day goes by when Lyra won’t ask to do something creative even if it’s just getting the crayons out to draw. It’s a sure fire way to make her happy and if I get the paints out, well, she acts like she’s won the lottery! I absolutely love to watch her create something even if that something is a big mess of all of the colours she can get her hands on or I have to ask her to tell me what’s she has drawn because quite frankly it looks like a blob to me. In case you’re wondering at the moment her favourite things to draw are spiders and ladders!
I usually get the felt tips out when Athena is napping because it has been a nice way to give Lyra a little one on one attention and because Athena tries to eat them if she sees them. This has meant that I’ve only got the paints out whilst she’s been asleep as well and although I’ve enjoyed the time with just Lyra I don’t want Athena to miss out either. So, one day last week when both girls were in good moods I got the paints out for both of them to play with. And it went exactly how I imagined it would. It was colourful, it was chaotic, and it was magical. It was also very messy, Athena kept trying to eat all of the paint and Lyra got annoyed at Athena trying to mess up her painting. It ended up with both girls needing a bath and the bathroom looking like a scene out of a horror movie but both girls were ridiculously happy. And of course that makes it all worthwhile!
I managed to take a few photos in between trying to stop Athena eating paint and I think they sum up the beautiful chaos perfectly.
