My Girls in December

I can’t believe these two have been sisters for six months now! As much as time has flown by for me when I look at the two of them together I feel like Athena has always been here. They seem to know each other on a fundamental level. They reach for the others hand without looking away from whatever else they’re doing, Athena always seeks out Lyra when she enters a room and Lyra always seems to know what Athena needs, whether that’s a toy, a cuddle, whatever. It’s amazing to watch and I feel so lucky that their relationship is so strong already.

That is not to say that it’s without problems. Of course there are problems, they are two small children! Lyra is still overenthusiastic with her affection and knocks Athena down with her hugs more times than I can count in a day. She’s also taken to licking her little sister which is, quite frankly, just a bit weird. Athena doesn’t seem to mind though and still saves her biggest smiles for Lyra. Lyra likes to copy us when we tickle Athena’s tummy but she’s much more rough than us, for some reason though Athena loves it and laughs and laughs. I haven’t the heart to stop them when they’re both giggling away together so I let it continue longer than I probably should.

Lyra has also started enjoying playing Mum. She gets great satisfaction telling her little sister that she can’t do things such as pick up small toys or try and eat my packet of crisps. Poor Athena is not going to get away with anything!

I’m in love with this months photos of the girls together. I did a similar style ‘shoot’ with Lyra on her first Christmas and I did not appreciate how much easier it is to take photos of just one child. Getting both of them to stay in one place long enough to take a photo in the low lighting was not easy but once I let go and just let them play together I managed to get some nice shots. The very top one in this post is easily my favourite though. No posing, just a whole lot of love for each other!

As part of Vlogmas Matt filmed a little ‘behind the scenes’ of us trying to get this months photos. I’ve got to be honest and say it was even more chaotic than it looks here and involved a lot of bribery to get Lyra to sit still long enough.

I also wanted to share a few more photos of the girls together throughout the month. Most of these photos were taken on my phone, some are blurry or there’s a lot of mess in the background but I think between them all they really show the girls’ relationship this month.
