The New Forest | Weekend Adventuring

On Friday it was our wedding anniversary, five years married! Since having children we try and plan something fun to do on our anniversary to celebrate the family that we have built together and this year it very happily coincided with a long weekend in the New Forest with other family members. Matt and I did manage to have breakfast out just the two of us before we left thanks to the help of grandparents which was lovely and then we loaded up the car and headed to the New Forest.

Now, Lyra is obsessed with My Little Pony at the moment so when we drove into the New Forest and she saw ponies on either side of the road she was over the moon. On the way to the cottage we stopped off at Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary to give us all a chance to stretch our legs and enjoy some of the gorgeous weather that had appeared. We only managed to see a couple of deer as we walked round but it was such a nice walk we couldn’t really complain.

After our walk we continued on to the cottage which was stunning. It had so much space for the girls to play in and was extremely family friendly which is always a plus when you have small children. Saturday we headed into Lymington to see the market and we had planned to walk around and explore a bit but the weather was terrible. Really not fun at all. So we headed back to the cottage to hide from the rain and watched the girls play and interact with their cousin.

Sunday was our last day but before we headed home we drove to Blackwater Arboretum since the weather was much better. Oh my, it was stunning. The colours of the forest were gorgeous and the leaves kept falling around us adding an almost magical element. I could have easily spent the day there but all too soon we had to leave to make our lunch reservation and then continue home. The whole weekend just flew by so quickly but we had a great time. The perfect mix of family time and exploration.

For some reason, yet again I didn’t take a lot of photos but Matt did of course film it. The video only includes Saturday and Sunday as we’ll be sharing our anniversary in it’s own video soon.

You can see more videos of our weekend adventures over on our YouTube channel. We’d love you to subscribe whilst you’re over there!
