Athena | One Month Old

Oh dear, I am so late writing this as Athena is already almost seven weeks old. Poor second child, there just seems to be no time for anything this time around. I have however managed to take weekly photos of her in the same spot each time as well as the portraits that I like to take of each girl every week. I loved taking the weekly update photos of Lyra during her first year and I really hope that I can keep it up with Athena as well.

I don’t know about you but the first month with a new baby always seems to pass in a haze for me. It goes so quickly in a blur of cuddles, night feeds, visitors and nappy changes. With Lyra we retreated into our own little bubble and barely left the house for weeks as we adapted to life with a baby but we wasn’t an option this time. Lyra is still so young and couldn’t fully understand everything that was going on so we wanted to keep things as normal as possible for her. And that meant a lot of time outside. I guess that’s why, at the end of her first month of life, Athena has already been to two National Trust properties, countless walks, lunches out and even to London for a wedding on a barge!

Although the month was busy we’ve had plenty of time to start getting to know Athena. So far she’s just as laid back as her older sister. She barely cries but when she does she cries like it’s the end of the world. She’s so alert and seems to be taking everything in, I can’t help but feel that she has an old soul. She is also one hungry little girl and breast feeds for what feels like most of the day (and night)! It’s not surprising considering she was 9lb3oz when she was born and was in 0-3 month clothing at one week old as newborn and up to one month sleep suits were too short for her. She’s waking every two hours to feed which is of course leaving me exhausted but the benefit of having done it before is that I know it won’t be forever. I am lucky in that she settles quickly in the night. She wakes up, gets what she wants (milk) and falls back to sleep straight away.

It has certainly been an adjustment having two children but Athena is so chilled and puts up with all of the accidental nudging and squishing from her big sister. She seems to follow Lyra around the room with her eyes and I can’t wait until she can interact with her more. Athena also seems really happy to just go with the flow. I’m not sure if this is a second child thing or just her personality but it certainly made our weekend in London much easier. We are all so smitten with Athena but I would just like time to slow down a little more please!

The time goes so quickly doesn't it. I love the weekly photos you're doing, and love that Athena has crammed so much into her little life already!x
