It seems that recently Lyra’s eating habits have really changed. It seems like only yesterday that we were sat in front of her, trying to spoon the smallest bit of purée into her mouth all whilst she was wearing a giant bib. It only took us about a week to realise that that just wasn’t going to work with Lyra and we started trying baby led weaning. Fortunately that worked much better and so after investing in an even bigger bib (she was understandably a messy eater) and a mat for under the high chair (a really messy eater) weaning went so much better.
In recent weeks though the amount of mess that Lyra has created as she eats has decreased dramatically. She’s now eating ‘proper’ meals such as fish pie, ragu, and stir fry but nearly all of it now either goes in Lyra or at least stays in the bowl (or at worst on the tray). We got rid of the mat about a month ago and last week the time came to say good bye to the giant bibs.
We had had the full bibs that went down the whole arm but since Lyra is pretty lanky the material stopped closer to her elbow. She’d learnt how to take them off anyway so they weren’t much help and I really didn’t like pulling one out of my bag at a restaurant as they’re not the prettiest thing ever. So with all of that in mind we made the switch to bandana bibs. These ones from Funky Giraffe are so cute and they’re also just the right size to catch the mess that Lyra might make without getting in the way. Plus there are so many designs to choose from that I know I could find one to compliment her outfit which is great and the fact that they have poppers instead of velcro means Lyra can’t pull them off. I kind of wish that I’d found them sooner as they would have been perfect when she was teething as I remember going through so many drool soaked vests and tops back then and these cute little bibs would have stopped that.
One of the other great things about Lyra getting the hang of feeding herself and getting more comfortable during mealtimes is we’ve been able to reintroduce picnics! I love picnics but for a while Lyra had to be strapped into a high chair or she wouldn’t understand that it was time for food. Although we’ve missed pretty much all of the summer we’ve had some sunshine this past week so I was straight in the garden to show Lyra how fun picnics could be.
I was sent a selection of bibs in exchange for a review however all words and opinions are entirely my own. If you are in the UK go check out Funky Giraffe to see all of the other exciting designs they have. If you’re not in the UK panic not as they also have French, American and Australian sites.
