The day after Lyra turned one we threw her a little party. We didn’t want to go too crazy as we were worried about her getting overwhelmed and we didn’t want to stress ourselves out but I couldn’t let her birthday go by without celebrating with loved ones. So we invited our family and some of our closest friends and had ourselves a little party.
I needn’t have worried about Lyra getting overwhelmed! She loved all of the attention and spent the whole day smiling away. It was very cute. And it was lovely to spend the day surrounded by people who love Lyra, it made me feel very lucky to have them all in my life. We didn’t do too much food as we were trying to keep it simple but I did bake Lyra a cake. My Mum would always bake such amazing birthday cakes for me growing up in all different themes and shapes and it was something that I wanted to do for my daughter’s birthdays. I started off pretty simple for her first birthday but maybe I’ll try and be a little more adventurous next year.
When it came to blowing out the candles, I felt for sure that Lyra would cry. She was sat on her own with everyone else facing her and of course everyone had a camera. It would appear that since I take so many photos of her everyday she was completely unfazed by all of the cameras in her face. Even when everyone sang happy birthday, she just lapped up all of the attention. Watching Matt help Lyra blow out the candle on her first birthday cake made me well up a little. It was definitely one of those moments I’d always imagined but in real life it was so much nicer.
My Mum also brought up a dress that I had worn to my Christening when I was Lyra’s age. I was christened when I was one year and one day old and since that was exactly how old Lyra was on Sunday I just had to get some photos of her in the dress. I just think she looks adorable. You can see a comparison photo between Lyra and I on my instagram. I always love looking at pictures of Matt or I at the same age as Lyra although I think she’s definitely starting to look less like me now.
Oh and I had to take a photo of Lyra with her presents the next morning as that is something that my parents always did as well and I love looking back at them. I hope one day Lyra enjoys looking at hers and seeing how spoilt and loved she was. We had such a great time throwing Lyra her little party and we’ve yet to take down any of the decorations as we try to keep that birthday feeling alive. I still can’t quite believe that Lyra is now a one year old but I’m excited to see what this year brings for her.
