We’ve been a poorly little household for over a week now but this past weekend we had pencilled in all of our Christmas prep. Wrapping presents, putting some decorations up and getting the house ready for guests as we have family visiting every other weekend in the run up to Christmas. We tried to get stuff done, we really did but the weather on Saturday was glorious and after days cooped up sick in the house together we were craving the fresh air. So we may have snuck out of the house for a walk around Prior Park.
I’m so glad that we did. The fresh air did wonders and it was just nice to spend some time outdoors as a family. Matt carried Lyra and she loved looking at all of the autumnal colours until she finally gave in and fell asleep. It felt like we were saying goodbye to autumn and welcoming winter in the loveliest way. The last time that we were at Prior Park together was before we were even pregnant with Lyra. We walked through the park that year, hand in hand, talking about how lovely it would be bring our children there. And now here we are. It’s amazing to think that this is our life now, that we are living the life that we were daydreaming about just a couple of years ago. Of course, I’m not saying that we’ve got it easy but it’s days like these that remind me how lucky I am.
We walked around for a little while, taking pictures and chatting before stopping for hot chocolate and cake. Although I had to eat my piece behind Lyra’s back as she was desperate to get her hands on it! There was definitely a feeling of ‘skiving’, of ditching our responsibilities for a couple of hours, but honestly that just added to the enjoyment. These are the days that we’ll remember, these are memories being made and that’s more important than any housework (to any family reading this, I promise we were productive on Sunday)!
