When we went to Spain last year Athena was only 13 weeks old ( I can’t quite believe we went on an overseas holiday with a 2 year old a 13 week old baby either!) and so she didn’t really do a lot. Of course she laid around and looked very cute but mostly she was pushed around in the pushchair or carried in the wrap whilst she slept so this year we were really excited to see how she got on on the beach and in the pool.
Since the weather forecast was predicting a steady stream of hot sunny days we knew that we’d be spending a lot of time around the pool and although Athena had been in the water last year, she was only 13 weeks, she didn’t really know what was going on! This year she was 14 months, running around everywhere, and a big lover of baths, so we were pretty optimistic. As we guessed she absolutely loved the pool. So much so that most of the time she was not content to be in the inflatable that we had bought for her she wanted to be in the middle of the action, splashing around with the rest of us. I love these photos of her, I feel like you can almost hear her laughter through them.
The beach was not as much of a success though unfortunately. Actually, technically she loved the beach but for some reason she hated the sea. Like screamed and stiffened up as soon as we took her in it hated it. So on our beach days she stayed on dry land digging holes and filling buckets, only going into the sea when we needed to wash her down. One thing that made our trips to both the pool and the beach easier was the new and improved happy nappy from Splash About. Its design means that it moves with your little one and doesn’t gape no matter how much they’re kicking and splashing around which was perfect for Athena. We had no accidents with it the whole time we were away and it was really easy to clean and dry which was perfect as sometimes we were at the pool or beach twice in one day and it is also SPF 50 which was one less thing to worry about whilst she was running around in the sunshine. It also meant that we didn’t need to take loads of disposable swim nappies away with us which meant more room in the suitcases for all of the holiday clothes that I’d bought (for the girls of course)!
I’m so glad that Athena loved splashing about in the pool, now I just need to work on getting her excited about the sea. I think I’ll have to wait until next year in the UK now though as the weather has turned decidedly chilly the past few days. Pool it is for now then!
I was kindly sent one of Splash About’s new Happy Nappies for the purposes of this review however all words and opinions are my own.
