Athena is now a week old! I cannot believe how quickly the past seven days have gone and how easily she has slotted into our lives. I’m not really ready to revisit her birth yet but it took me by surprise and was a lot quicker than Lyra’s, it ended in a lot of bleeding from me and a trip to theatre, and subsequently I think I spent Athena’s first couple of days in shock. I didn’t take as many photos as I ordinarily would so I really treasure the ones that I did take. Luckily Matt was also taking photos and filming Athena’s first couple of days as I was recovering.
Whilst I was pregnant I was adamant that I would stay in the hospital the shortest amount of time possible. I’d never spent a night away from Lyra and I didn’t want my labour to be the first time but it’s funny how things work out isn’t it. We ended up spending the first 48 hours of Athena’s life in the hospital and I was (mostly) ok with it. I was too unwell to leave any sooner and it was nice to get some time to bond with our new baby before introducing her to Lyra and having to split my time and attention between them. That said, I was so ready to head home at the end of it and get back to Lyra, I missed her so much!
And here is Matt’s video. I know that this is one that I will watch over and over. I’m so grateful that he has the same desire to document our days as I do.
