I am so, so excited that now Athena is here I can join in with Dear Beautiful and her Siblings Project. I love taking family photos each month for her Me and Mine project and since before I even discovered that I was expecting a second child I’ve been addicted to looking at everyone’s sibling photos. All through my pregnancy I couldn’t stop daydreaming about whether we were giving Lyra a baby brother or sister and what their relationship might be like both as young children and also later in life.
All I can say is so far, so good. Athena is only two weeks old so it’s too soon to really see much of a bond yet and since all she really does is sleep, feed and fill her nappy so she isn’t the most interesting creature yet to Lyra. Despite all of that though Lyra seems pretty besotted with her. Since we brought her home from the hospital there hasn’t been a day gone by where Lyra hasn’t asked to hold Athena. She really likes us to place Athena on her lap so that she can stroke her face and chat away to her. The past couple of days I’ve even been able to see Athena recognising her voice and turning towards her which of course made Lyra happy.
It obviously hasn’t all been plain sailing and I know that it will become more difficult once Matt goes back to work tomorrow but I feel so lucky that Lyra hasn’t kicked off about her world being turned upside down and instead seems to have accepted that there is now another member of our family and we all have to share a little more. I couldn’t be more proud of my daughters (daughters, eek, I still can’t get used to that being plural) and I am so excited to see them grow up together and to watch their bond deepen.
I know that I’ve added a lot of photos to this post but how could I not?! I also know that I won’t be able to get this many every month, especially when Athena starts moving. Oh and I just have to share one more photo, the moment the two of them met… (If you want to see the video of them meeting it’s over on our Youtube channel)
