Weekend Adventuring | Stourhead

Last weekend we headed down to Portland to visit family and friends for probably the last time before baby is born. We could not have picked a better weekend to go as the weather was stunning! Saturday was spent pampering myself with a haircut and colour, Lyra even had her first ever hair cut. My Mum very kindly painted my toe nails as I can no longer do them myself and now I just feel more ready for this baby to join us. We also visited the National Trust property Portland House. Most of the year it’s rented out as a holiday cottage but two weekends in the year they open it up to visit and look around.

Sunday we had to drive back up to Bath but since the weather was so lovely we didn’t want to waste the whole day travelling so we decided to break up the journey with a day at Stourhead. I love Stourhead but it’s not a property we visit a lot because of the distance and because the few times we have been it has been super busy. Sunday was perfect though. The car park was busy but once we’d started walking we never felt crowded, in fact a lot of the time we were walking completely alone. Bliss! My family had driven up with us as well to spend some more time together, we packed a picnic and generally just enjoyed the sunshine and beautiful setting.

Lyra had so much fun. We’ve learnt that at her age it just isn’t worth venturing into the houses themselves. She’s too old to be carried through quietly and too young for the activities that they have for children but that’s the beauty of a National Trust membership. I never feel like we’re wasting money and instead of trying to squeeze everything in and upsetting Lyra by rushing her we can follow her lead and explore with her. And follow Lyra we did. She wanted to walk amongst the gardens and visit the trees. She’s picked up a habit of leaving little gifts for the trees which is so ridiculously cute. She wanted to climb everything and had lots of fun with her Grandad who kept hiding and jumping out on her.

It was so nice to see some sun again even if it has already disappeared and we’re back to gloomy rainy days. For one weekend I had a glimpse of summer and I am so, so excited for it to appear. There will be lots of adventuring for my little family of four!

Here is our weekend vlog showing what we got up to in a little more detail. There’s actually two this week as even though I didn’t take many photos on Saturday Matt managed to film.

Be sure to check out our YouTube channel for videos of our past weekend adventures and I would love it if you would give it a like or subscribe. Thanks
