Letters to Lyra: You’re Walking!

My beautiful little one,

This week has seen you well and truly become a toddler. In what I’m starting to recognise as your style, you kept the learning of this new skill secret until you’d pretty much mastered it. For weeks you would only take a step or two here and there if we really cheered you on and then suddenly this week you’re walking everywhere! You are a constant surprise Lyra Josephine and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Walking has always been the milestone that I was most excited about. Well, that and talking but one thing at a time hey. When I was pregnant with you I thought that walking would mark the start of adventuring for us. As it turns out, we’ve managed a lot of adventuring already but that hasn’t made me any less excited about you learning to walk.

At the moment you have the cutest little wobble as you toddle around the house and park. I know that before I know it you’ll be walking and running confidently so I’m trying to soak it all up and not forget a thing. My phone is full to bursting of videos from the past few days, from a few shaky steps to walking up and down our garden path.

This feels like such a big sign that the baby days are behind us, and those newborn weeks seem like a lifetime ago. I have a toddler now. Wow. I’m so very grateful that I get to walk alongside you in life, that I get to see you accomplish these milestones. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I love you Lyra Jo,

Very much so.
